Welcome to our own CUPID-19 story. Right when we thought dating could not get any worse, due to multiple online dating hazards and a rising divorce rate, the modern dating dilemma has been magnified. Problems abound. Bars, concerts or sports games are no longer an option. For others, online dating during COVID has become impossible. People keep asking me: How is the pandemic affecting relationships? Well, as research shows some married or in a long-term relationship have gotten closer. Others have split up indefinitely. Some relationships have been salvaged during our new normal so love still wins in many cases. Relationships that were just starting pre-COVID fizzled out. Others got married! We are happy to say that we had couples become engaged and married–all during COVID.
Regardless of all the highs and lows, the problem with digital dating has gotten increasingly worse. Who really wants to meet a complete stranger during COVID? It is too risky. Digital dating has resulted in more one-night hook ups than ever before. Does this person wear a mask? Do they practice social distancing? Have they been tested or exposed? What about intimacy? In New York alone, research shows that one in five people have gotten together too quickly during this period. In L.A., one in four, and in Chicago, one in two have done the same! This is based on an online dating study performed recently.
So, what do you do? Discuss COVID-19 with a potential partner and take precautions, as you would in any other time. Eliminate your risks. Date from a distance and monitor their lifestyle patterns whenever possible. I pose such questions to my clients, BUT I also know that my clientele is more careful about interpersonal risk factors–which is why they joined my club initially. We organically act like a filter…we always have…this is a common sense no brainer for most of you.
The bottom line is: choose your partner wisely and don’t move too fast. Another positive note that we have observed during this dating dilemma phase is that people are TAKING THEIR TIME and getting to know one another before leaping in with both feet.
People are staying home more but yet there is an increase in messages and inquiries to our club. My clients seem more aware and more connected than ever before. They have turned this “time out” into something good and you can too.
When you meet a client through our club it is almost like a “invisible badge” and you will recognize that our clientele is more on point than someone at a bar (or restaurant) or an online dating site.
People are more vulnerable now. This is good though, and as a result, there is an up tick in sincerity while dating. There is more authenticity to the people I meet, regardless of their age.
People that would usually not commit are committing. Exclusivity is on the rise.
At the end of the day, the pandemic has created a unique set of circumstances that is like an elixir for love. This magical time can bring you and your future partner together.
We have heard the “L word” comes easier these days. Dating is making a comeback. Have no fear, just because Halloween is near!
Even though your life has been on hold for so long, love still finds a way!
