Happy New Year! If you are reading this column, you are single, divorced or widowed, and/or you know someone who is, correct? You are most likely looking for a solution to your dating dilemma (or your friends). There is no better time of year to jumpstart romance! Is it even possible to jumpstart romance or love? Science says it is (and I agree). According to an article in The New York Times, love can be induced. We have more control over our love life than we think we do. Let’s face it, he or she is not going to show up on your doorstep. Stand up and make it happen this January, before we find ourselves another year older. Welcome to 2016: a year that is going to be filled with SMART LOVE!
Some may say: “I want to meet my partner the old fashioned way.” This is all fine in dreamland, but consider the divorce rate and the drama that may ensue from such outdated philosophies. Haven’t you been there and done that quite a few times? Loving the wrong person can be very expensive: emotionally, physically, and financially. Half of the adult population in Florida is SINGLE. In the name of new beginnings, I present to you a profound love elixir that is destined bring you the love you want in 2016.
More than 20 years ago, a psychologist, Dr. Arthur Aron actually made two strangers fall in love in his laboratory! This finding was shocking to me, and as a matchmaker, I found it very interesting. In my own club, sometimes just my “suggestion” that someone would hit it off with another is enough to prompt love. Think back to your school days. Recall the friend that reported that someone was interested in you, and before you knew it, you were an “item!” Love is not as difficult to find as you think, as long as, you pick the right person. (Online daters and bar flies beware).
In the Aron study, a man and woman enter a lab. They sit face to face and answer a series of personal questions. Then they stare quietly into each other’s eyes for four minutes. The most tantalizing result: Six months later, the two participants were married. They invited the entire lab to the ceremony.
